Food habits play a vital role in winter as they impact your overall well-being during the colder months.
With the drop in temperature, it becomes essential to consume foods that provide warmth and nourishment. Healthy food choices help boost our immune system, protecting us from winter illnesses.
Warm and nutritious meals keep us energized and combat the seasonal sluggishness. Additionally, proper hydration and a balanced diet support our mental health and mood.
Embracing seasonal produce allows us to enjoy fresh, flavorful, and nutrient-rich foods. By prioritizing our food habits in winter, we can enhance our resilience, stay healthy, and thrive during the chilly season.
Ginger is a powerful and versatile winter food that holds significant importance. With its natural warming properties, ginger helps to combat cold weather and keep our bodies cozy. It is known for its ability to boost circulation, providing warmth from within. Additionally, ginger is a potent immune booster, aiding in the prevention and management of winter illnesses. It aids digestion, alleviates nausea, and reduces inflammation, making it an ideal choice for winter meals. So today we present you a recipe for Ginger Candy (Adrak Pak) which is sweet and spicy candy as a natural remedy or as a delightful snack to satisfy your cravings.
Ginger Candy (Adrak Pak) Recipe:
Ingredients:
1 cup grated fresh ginger
1 cup jaggery (or substitute with brown sugar)
1/4 cup water
1/2 teaspoon ghee (clarified butter)
1/2 teaspoon cardamom powder
1/4 teaspoon black pepper powder
A pinch of saffron strands (optional)
Chopped nuts for garnish (e.g., almonds, pistachios) - optional
Instructions:
In a pan, heat the ghee over medium heat.
Add the grated ginger to the pan and sauté it for a minute or two until the raw smell disappears.
In a separate saucepan, dissolve the jaggery (or brown sugar) in water and bring it to a boil.
Reduce the heat and let the jaggery syrup simmer for a few minutes until it reaches a thick consistency.
Add the sautéed ginger to the jaggery syrup and mix well.
Stir in the cardamom powder, black pepper powder, and saffron strands (if using). Continue to cook the mixture on low heat, stirring occasionally.
Cook the mixture until it thickens and starts to leave the sides of the pan. It should have a sticky consistency.
Once the mixture is ready, remove it from heat and let it cool slightly.
Grease your palms with ghee (clarified butter) and take small portions of the mixture to shape it into small balls or desired shapes.
Place the ginger candy on a greased tray or parchment paper. If desired, garnish with chopped nuts.
Allow the ginger candy to cool completely and harden before serving. You can store it in an airtight container for several weeks.
Ginger candy or Adrak pak, is a delicious and soothing treat, especially during the winter months. Try this recipe and do not forget to tell us your views on it.
