Yoga Spirit Studios is a "Wellbeing Centre". This means that our focus is your well-being. Our yoga is somatic in approach and is designed to release tension, build strength and create the optimum conditions for inner healing and peace. Your safety and wellness are our principle concerns.
We are inspired by the work of internationally acclaimed yoga teacher Donna Farhi, and understand Hatha Yoga to be holistic and somatic. Our yoga embraces the essence of this ancient tradition while making it relevant to our modern day lives. Our teachers are welcoming, caring and knowledgeable, creating an atmosphere for learning that is safe and comfortable for students of all ages and physical ability.
Most of our teachers are also trained Level 1 Somatics Exercise Coaches (in style of Thomas Hanna) and often weave somatics into their classes, especially in response to the physical challenges their students are facing. Somatics is a movement practice that is excellent for relieving held tensions in the body to allow you to move freely without stiffness and pain.
Our staff also have skills in Meditation, Mindfulness and iRest® Yoga Nidra, which have all been shown in evidence based research to be effective in helping people heal from stress, anxiety, depression and trauma.
Yoga is often associated with stretching and flexibility. It is true that yoga does improve flexibility, but it is equally about strength, mindfulness in movement and self-exploration. During yoga we concentrate on the felt sense of our own body, developing body awareness that many times means we respond earlier and more effectively to illness or injury if they arise, leading to a more healthy life.
