Celebrating 21 years of serving the Adelaide Yoga community
Yoga has been practiced for centuries to enhance the physical and mental capacities of humankind. In difficult times of life, such as pandemics, financial stress, or personal loss, Yoga can be especially important for helping individuals cope with stress and maintain a positive outlook on life.
1) Improving mental clarity and focus- Sometimes while passing the tests that life throws our way, it can be hard to stay focused and clear-headed. Yoga helps to improve mental clarity and focus by bringing attention to the breath and the body. This can help individuals stay grounded and centered, even in challenging circumstances.
2) Reducing stress and anxiety- Stress is a common reaction to difficult situations, and it can negatively affect our well-being. Practicing Yoga and Meditation helps individuals to slow down their breathing and focuses their mind on the present moment, which can help to reduce stress levels. Yoga also promotes relaxation and helps to reduce tension in the body, which can further reduce stress and promote a sense of calmness.
3) Helping individuals to build resilience-Resilience is the ability to cope with and bounce back from difficult situations. By practicing yoga, individuals can develop mental and emotional strength, which can help them to better handle challenging situations. Yoga practice gives you time to focus on yourself in chaos. The mindfulness and meditation practices that are often part of yoga practice can help individuals to develop greater self-awareness and self-acceptance, which can also contribute to resilience.
4) Boosting physical health- Yoga asanas can also help to promote physical health, which can be especially important during difficult times. Regular practice has been shown to boost the immune system, which can help to ward off illnesses, strengthen the body, improve flexibility, and reduce pain and stiffness. These physical benefits can help individuals to feel more energized and better able to cope with the demands of daily life.
5) Promoting self-awareness: Meditation can help to promote self-awareness by encouraging you to listen to your body and become more attuned to your physical and emotional needs.
6) Creating a sense of community-Yoga classes provide an opportunity to connect with others and create a sense of community. This can be particularly helpful during tough times when you may feel isolated or alone.
Overall, Yoga and Meditation can be incredibly valuable tools for individuals during difficult times of life. Therefore take your Yoga practice beyond physical exercise and do not look at it as another activity. When we are in an overwhelming situation, our mind asks to stop those commitments which look less important, Yoga and Meditation are surely not among those activities and can be a huge support rather than a burden.
So instead of escaping from the practice, try to include the practice even on your most challenging days, this is where the strength of Yoga lies.
Aum Shantih!
