Yoga for Breast Cancer 8 week course
This eight week course is designed for women who have had, or are currently dealing with breast cancer, to introduce them to the benefits of yoga. No previous yoga experience is necessary.
In each class, modified gentle postures will be taught in order to help improve flexibility with a focus on the arms and shoulders. In addition, breathing techniques will be taught to help bring a gentle opening of the chest and upper back areas.
Recognising the profound healing benefits of a focused relaxation, these classes will also include ample time for rest and deep letting go.
About the teacher
Karen Forrest has been practising yoga for 11 years, and has been teaching at Yoga Spirit Studios since 2005. She is a member of Yoga Australia, Australia's peak yoga teaching association.
In July 2010 Karen was diagnosed with breast cancer after a routine mammogram. She had a bi-lateral masectomy in August of that year, followed by breast reconstruction in December. As a result Karen had to modify her yoga practice to accommodate the loss of flexibility and strength in her upper body and knows the benefits of using the breath and relaxation to take control of her life again.
Karen returned to teaching yoga in June 2011. She creates a warm and welcoming atmosphere in her classes, and loves to share her life experience and delight in the benefits of a regular yoga practice.
